DHANBAD: After arresting Subhash Yadav, a close aide of RJD leader Lalu Prasad in the Rs 250 crore sand mining scam of Bihar last Saturday, the enforcement directorate (ED) launched searches at the residential premises of Yadav’s business partner Punj Singh at Jharia and Dhanbad on Saturday. Singh is said to be a partner of Yadav in both sand and liquor business. The ED sleuths are also conducting search operations at Singh’s village Dhandiha house under the Koilwar police station of Arra district in Bihar.
Though the ED officials were tight-lipped about the searches, sources said the ED sleuths are trying to corroborate the trail of incriminating documents found on the premises of Yadav.
While search operations were continuing at Hetlibandh, the Jharia residence of Singh’s brother till the time of reporting, the residence of Singh in Dhanbad was found locked from outside when the ED officials reached there early this morning. The lock was, however, opened at about 11 am by his aides in his absence and the ED officials were inside the house till the time of filing this report. Singh had appeared before the ED at its Patna office around two months ago where he was subjected to an intensive interrogation for nearly nine hours, the sources said.
The ED has already arrested five persons — Jagnarayan Singh, his son Satish Singh, Surinder Jindal, Baban Singh and Mithilesh Singh — from Dhanbad in the case. Bihar JD(U) MLC Radhacharan Seth and his son Kanhaiya Prasad were also arrested in Sept last year.
