District legal service comes in aid of violence victims in Ranchi
Ranchi: Tilkeshwari Kumari is all alone in her family with only a small plot of land for her survival. Her father, Budhan Singh Munda, and her brother, Suresh Munda, were murdered within three days of each other under the Sonhatu police station limits in February 2019.
The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Ranchi came to know about her plight and initiated steps to help her under the Victims’ Compensation Act.

An amount of Rs 2 lakh was given to her in the National Lok Adalat (NLA) held recently.
Sumitra Minz and her siblings are dependent on daily wages for survival after their father, Suka Mahadeo, Oraon was murdered under the Bero police station limits in August 2019. Sumitra is suffering from a heart ailment. The DLSA provided her Rs 2 lakh relief under the act during the National Lok Adalat.
DLSA, Ranchi had ensured payment of Rs 64.30 lakh among 35 victims of violence, including murder, during the NLA held last Saturday.
The DLSA authorities said they have provided Rs 1.64 crore as relief to 77 victims of violence under the scheme this year so far. A sum of Rs 48.80 lakh was given to 14 people in February, Rs 26.60 lakh to 12 persons in March, and Rs 25 lakh to 16 persons from June to August.
DLSA secretary Rakesh Ranjan said, “Any victim can submit an application directly for compensation under the act. We also get recommendations from the court for payment of relief.”
