Dhanbad: In a breakthrough against rising vehicle thefts, Dhanbad police busted an interstate bike theft gang and recovered 16 stolen motorcycles.
The revelation was made during a press conference held at Barora police station by Dhanbad Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Kapil Chaudhary.
According to SP Chaudhary, a joint operation by Barora and Baghmara police led to the arrest of three criminals allegedly involved in a series of two-wheeler thefts across the region.
In addition, two minors connected with the racket were also detained. During interrogation, the accused provided crucial information that helped police recover 16 stolen motorcycles from various hideouts.
“The arrested individuals were part of an organised network involved in stealing and smuggling bikes across state borders,” SP Chaudhary said.
“Investigations are underway to identify their wider links and trace other members associated with the gang,” he said.
Police officials stated that the gang was active in different districts of Jharkhand and neighbouring states, targeting busy markets, residential areas, and unattended parking spots.
The stolen vehicles were reportedly being sold in rural markets and sometimes dismantled for spare parts.
All arrested accused have been forwarded to judicial custody, while the two minors are being dealt with under the Juvenile Justice Act.
Further inquiries are being carried out to ascertain whether the gang has links to similar thefts reported in Bihar and West Bengal.
The Rural SP assured that strict action will continue against organised crime and reiterated the commitment of the police to curb vehicle thefts in the district.
The successful operation has boosted public confidence in the ongoing police drive against criminal activities in Dhanbad.
