Dhanbad Municipal Corporation Board Meeting Resumes After 6 Years: Key Decisions Expected
Dhanbad: The maiden board meeting of the newly formed Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) is set to be held on Saturday after a gap of nearly six years. The meeting marks a significant step towards restoring the regular functioning of the civic body following the recently concluded municipal elections.
During the meeting, the selection of chairpersons for 11 zonal committees will be carried out. Each committee will represent a group of five wards. These chairpersons, along with the mayor and deputy mayor, will constitute the 13-member standing committee of the corporation, which plays a crucial role in decision-making and governance.
The previous tenure of the DMC board had ended on June 18, 2020. However, due to various reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic, fresh elections could not be conducted on time, resulting in a prolonged administrative gap. The recent elections have now paved the way for the reconstitution of the municipal body.
Officials have also informed that the second board meeting is scheduled for March 30. In this meeting, several key agendas will be presented before the councillors. Elected representatives are expected to raise pressing issues concerning their respective wards, focusing on basic civic amenities and development works.
After detailed discussions, proposals that receive approval from the board will be implemented on the ground in a phased manner. Assistant municipal commissioner Prakash Kumar stated that all necessary preparations for the board meeting have been completed and arrangements are in place to ensure smooth proceedings.
It is noteworthy that the last municipal elections in Dhanbad were held in 2015, with the board functioning until 2020. The latest meeting is expected to bring momentum to stalled civic operations.
