Jharkhand: Deputy mukhiya mowed down by truck in Dumka

DUMKA: The newly elected deputy mukhiya of Pathra panchayat under Raneshwar block in Dumka and a para teacher died while several others were critically injured when a speeding truck mowed them down near the Masanjor police station late on Friday night.

Deceased deputy mukhiya Ranjit Das (40) was elected to the post on Friday. He along with his supporters were celebrating on the roadside when the truck crushed them. The deceased para teacher was identified as Little Pandey of Nahar Park locality.

“The truck was coming from Pattabari when one of its front tyres burst and the driver lost. The vehicle then run over the crowd,” an eyewitness said. A dozen of injured locals are undergoing treatment at PJMCH. Five of them have been referred to the higher medical centre. “The condition of three is very critical,” a doctor said.
