RANCHI: Various types of modern and folk dances marked the valedictory function of
Ranchi University
Inter-College Youth Festival at St Xavier's College on Tuesday. The three-day fest began on November 27 and consisted of a variety of literary, cultural and artistic events.
A total of 640 students from 21 colleges under RU, both constituent and affiliated, participated in the event.
State tourism minister Amar Kumar Bauri, who was the chief guest during the closing ceremony, said, "Such fests provide a great platform to the students to showcase their hidden talent and only encourages them to perform at a higher level."
A total of 25 events were held during the three-day fest, including cartooning, classical vocal solo, group song, clay modelling, rangoli making, skits, mime debates, a quiz and folk dances.
Fest coordinator Kamal Bose said, "There were at least 75 winners out of the 25 events. Of these, the
gold
medallists will now be sent to participate in the east zone inter-university youth festival, to be held at
Vidyasagar University
in Midnapur in
West Bengal
, from December 27 to 31."
The students, who participated in fest, were shortlisted through college-level youth fests organised at every college in October. "We eagerly look forward to this fest every year as it provides us with some relief from our regular academics. Even the preparations for the fest is quite exciting for us," Manjari Kumari, a student, said.
Another student Swastik Gupta, said, "Through this fest, we can make our college proud. We also get to meet new people and make new friends from different colleges."
