Ranchi: The director general (DG) of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), N Kalaiselvi, on Tuesday stated that the organisation would focus on research based on industrial requirements in order to avoid a mismatch between the latter’s expectation and the new technologies.
Addressing the ‘One Week One Lab’ programme organised by the CSIR-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CSIR-CIMFR), she said the new measure would ensure that the new technologies developed in CISR laboratories have takers.
“I appreciate the way industries are coming out with their requirements so that the CSIR labs could conduct researches to find solutions. We are always there to accept the challenges,” she added.
The short life of technologies in the present era is providing a golden opportunity to the researchers to invent new technologies at a fast pace. The triangle of Chennai, Benguluru, and Tirupati is working on technology scale up. Chennai with hardware-based industries, Benguluru with software industries, and Tirupati with its educational institutions work together in which CSIR is the knowledge partner. “Based on the success of these experiments, we would set up similar centres in other parts of the country,” she stated.
CSIR-CIMFR director Arvind Mishra highlighted the technologies like the soft-coke making technology, the vision enhancement for mining in foggy environment, the controlled blasting, and the underground rock excavation developed by the institute.
“All the permitted explosives and detonators used in the country and also the exported ones have been designed and tested in my institution. All flame-proof equipment and intrinsically safe equipment used in oil and gas industries, mining, refineries and arms and ammunition depots have been tested here,” he added.
Chief executive officer of the Hindustan Zinc Limited Arun Mishra praised the CSIR-CIMFR for solving various challenges faced during mining.
The function saw the exchange of the Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between CSIR-CIMFR and the Hindustan Zinc Limited, the TATA Steel Limited, the Adani group, the National Mineral Development Corporation, Hyderabad and the SRK Mineral, Ranchi. The National Institute of Technology, Raipur and the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy, Vishakhapatnam joined hands with the CSIR-CIMFR for collaborative research in areas of mutual interest.
The DG also inaugurated a new laboratory in CISR CIMFR, which would be exclusively working on converting coal to hydrogen energy.
The CSIR-CIMFR is organising the ‘One Week One Lab’ progamme from August 22 to 26 to showcase its research and development achievements to the people.
