Hijab row: Ranchi cops file plaint against Bihar CM Nitish Kumar; protest held, effigy burnt

RANCHI: A complaint has been lodged with Itki police station in Ranchi against Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar over a viral video which allegedly showed him removing the “hijab” of a woman during an appointment letter distribution ceremony recently at Patna in Bihar.

A social worker identified as Md Murtaja Alam filed the complaint, claiming that the Bihar CM’s behaviour in the video, which is now in the public domain, has hurt religious sentiments and is also an “attack on the decency” of a woman. He has requested the police to investigate the matter and register an FIR against Kumar.




The officer-in-charge of Itki police station, Manish Kumar, said, “The complaint has been entered in the station diary. The FIR, however, has not been registered yet. We are looking into the matter.”

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Muslim Yuva Manch also held a demonstration in the Lower Bazaar police station area, claiming that the Bihar CM’s behaviour has hurt women’s esteem. The organisation also burnt an effigy of Kumar at the site.
