The students thanked the Government of India for making swift arrangements in bringing them back home safely. Talking to TOI, Vaibhav Mundra, who was studying medicine at a college in Lviv, said, “There are students from various countries who are pursuing higher education in Ukraine but the manner in which our government has carried out our evacuation is unmatchable.”
Recalling the hardships they had to go through in reaching the shelter camps situated in the neighbouring country of Poland, another medical student named Divya Singh said, “We faced many difficulties in reaching the Polish border as we had to travel on our own. However, once we reached the border, the Indian embassy officials took care of everything and provided us with food and lodging.”
Singh, who is from Chaibasa and was enrolled in a college in Kharkiv, said she is uncertain about her future as there is no possibility of colleges reopening any time soon. “Now that the war has started, we do not know what will happen next,” she added.
