Civil society group demands Sonam Wangchuk's release

Ranchi: Members of various civil society groups gathered at Albert Ekka Chowk in Ranchi on Monday to condemn the arrest of inventor turned activist Sonam Wangchuk last week and demanded his immediate release. Similar protests were also held in Jamshedpur on Monday.

“The fight that Wangchuk started is not just for Ladakh only but a fight to protect constitutional rights and democratic values of the country. By arresting him and imposing false accusations, the Centre is fomenting separatism and inciting people. This is a conspiracy to crush the peaceful movement, which will not be tolerated, and we will continue to raise our voice against it until he is released,” said Apurva, a member of Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha.

The groups demanded the formation of a high-level judicial commission to investigate the death of four youths during a protest march last month and to compensate their families by the govt.
