Ranchi: Several pandals have been erected across the state capital ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, beginning Wednesday. The idols range from five feet to 18 feet in height.
Vicky Kumar, a member of the Devadhidev Mandir Sri Ganesh Puja Samiti in Pandra’s Anand Nagar, said, “Ganesh Puja was not celebrated in a grand manner till recently. Several pandals are being erected in the city to welcome the lord from the past five years.”
Vikram Sharma, the president of the New Star Nav Yuvak Sangh Sri Ganesh Puja Samiti said, “Most of the pandals have been decked up in lights.”
The Gajraz Puja Samiti has installed an 18-feet-high Ganesha idol at the OTC ground. “The city is adopting the culture of other states like Maharashtra and started celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi lavishly. We have been making the pandal for the last eight years,” Deepak Ojha, a member of the puja committee, said.
Meanwhile, the Ganesh idol at the Lower Chutia pandal is 15 feet. The Mina Bazaar fair will be an added attraction for the devotees for 10 days from Wednesday.
Ram Chandra Pal, an idol maker who has a shop at Firayala area, said, “After a lean business in the past two year, I received orders from 30 clubs across the city this year. The orders started pouring in one month prior to the festival.”
