City DSP’s reader held while taking bribe

Ranchi's Anti-Corruption Bureau apprehended Sunil Paswan, a reader at the city DSP's office, for accepting a Rs 25,000 bribe. Paswan had demanded the money to remove a forest guard's name from an FIR. The arrest followed a trap laid by the ACB after the forest guard's brother reported the demand.

Ranchi: A team of sleuths from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a reader at the office of city DSP after being caught in the act of taking a bribe of Rs 25,000. In a statement, the ACB said the reader, identified as Sunil Paswan, had sought bribe for removing the name Jitendra Kumar, a forest guard, from a FIR registered under various sections of the IPC and the Dowry Prevention Act.“Mithun Kumar, the younger brother of Jitendra, said Paswan initially demanded Rs 40,000 as bribe but agreed on Rs 25,000 for removing his name or weaking the case against him,” the statement read. Unwilling to pay the bribe, Mithun approached the ACB. The agency then laid a trap on Thursday and arrested Paswan.
