Ranchi: The

Ranchi Municipal Corporation

(RMC) has begun cleaning the drains in the state capital to prevent water logging during the monsoons. However, the residents of different areas are complaining that the

RMC

sanitation workers are dumping the slush and the waste by the roadside.

Ajay Gupta

, a resident of Peace Road at Lalpur, said, “The RMC cleans the drains and dumps the waste beside the drains on the roadside, which stays for weeks. It becomes difficult for the pedestrians to walk as the waste fills up the roadsides.”
Though the road that connects

Kanke

and Morhabadi has swacchata slogans written on the walls, plastic bottles and waste clog the drains for months. “They cleaned the drains about 10 days ago and left the waste on the roadsides for four to five days. Half of that is back in the sewers.”
J P Yadav, who runs a shop at Kanke Road, complained of the waste lying outside his store. “The waste picked from the drain will probably be collected by the garbage collectors when it has dried or scattered across the road,” he said, mocking the RMC’s efforts.
Additional commissioner of

RMC Kunwar Singh Pahan

said the administration has set June 5 as the deadline to clean all sewages and drains of the city. “We are monitoring certain areas to ensure that the work is being done properly. We will look into the problems and get those fixed.”Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Women's Day wishes, messages and quotes !
