Chatra: A woman and her two minor daughters drowned in a pond at Bhojya village under Sadar block in Chatra district on Sunday, police said.
Parwa Devi (28), along with Geeta Kumari (8) and Malti Kumari (6), went to Barka Aahar pond to wash clothes. Malti slipped into the water while washing clothes. Parwa and Geeta jumped into the pond to save her. But all three drowned.
The bodies were recovered from the pond after strenuous attempts.
The officer in-charge of the Sadar police station, Awadhesh Kumar Singh, said, “The bodies were sent to the Chatra sadar hospital for post-mortem examination.”
Chatra sub-divisional officer Md Zahur Alam said that Rs 4 lakh would be given to the family for each deceased, under the District Disaster Relief Fund (DDRF).
