Chatra couple held with 1.5kg opium worth 1.5L

Chatra: A farmer couple were arrested after 1.5kg opium was found at their house located at Kathar tola under Lawalong Kolkole area of Simaria police station limits on Saturday.
Simaria sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Ashok Priyadarshi said the arrests were made on the basis of a tip-off received by superintendent of police (SP) Rakesh Ranjan.
Lawalong police station officer in-charge Bambam Kumar raided the house of Mohammad Abbas and seized opium weighing 1.5kg worth over Rs 1.5 lakh in the market. Abbas (45) and his wife Aisha Khatoon (40) were arrested, police added.
During interrogation, the duo confessed that they were trying to sell the opium to a member of a gang. An FIR, bearing number 30/23, was lodged against the two at the Lawalong police station and they were sent to judicial custody on Sunday. Probe is on to know from where the accused received the consignment.
