Caught red-handed: Cultivator arrested with 43.5 kg of marijuana; Ongoing investigation into local drug trade

Daltonganj: Tarhassi police in Palamu district nabbed a cultivator with 43.5 kg of raw marijuana. Officer in-charge of Tarhassi police station, Anand Ram, said that the culprit has been identified as Jairam Oraon (35), who was caught during a raid on the intervening night of Dec 14 and 15. “He was forwarded to jail on Monday under sections of the NDPS Act. He hails from Lalgara village and grows marijuana in the backyard of his house," he said.

The OC added that Oraon is a habitual offender. “He was booked for khair timber smuggling in the past. The seized marijuana was raw, and Oraon was getting it sun-baked when police got a tip-off about it," he said.

After getting a tip off, a raid team was organised under the aegis of Lesliganj SDPO, Manoj Kumar Jha.

The seized marijuana was packed in five plastic bags and one jute bag.
