Bribery Scandal Unveiled: ASI caught accepting Rs 5,000 bribe in land dispute; complainant exposes corrupt police practices
Bokaro: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted at Balidih police station in Bokaro was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for probing a land dispute case on Tuesday.
Additional SP of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Dhanbad, Binod Kumar, said, “The accused, identified as Mohammad Yakub Ansari (56), was arrested by the ACB in presence of a magistrate and two independent witnesses.”
According to ACB officials, the complainant had purchased 13 decimals of land in the Makhdumpur area under Balidih police station limits in 2009 through a registered sale deed. He later approached the police and district administration alleging land grabbing and threats by some persons.
The inquiry into the matter was assigned to ASI Ansari. During the course of the investigation, the accused allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 as “expenses” for visiting the site and conducting the probe. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and sought action against the police official.
Following the complaint, the bureau conducted a verification exercise and found the allegation to be true.
