RANCHI: Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore's visits to Jharkhand and Bihar have been compiled into a book titled 'Rabindranath Tagore' by Ajay Kumar Sinha and joint director general of BSNL
Sanjay Kumar Sinha. It was released by governor Syed Ahmed at a function organized in Raj Bhavan on Saturday.
Many don't know that Tagore spent days in different parts of the two states.
He even received financial support from Sir S N Sinha of Patna for building Shantiniketan. The book vividly describes his stay and what followed.
"During our research, we came to know that in one of his visits to Patna he was given a grand reception by Sir Sinha and a huge function was organized at Wheeler Hall. The visit was before Shantiniketan took shape. Sinha was excited by the concept and he even supported the plan by giving Rs 10051," said one of the authors.
On one such visit, Tagore spent some days at the residence of lawyer P R Das, brother of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das.
Bodh Gaya was also on his itinerary. He was seen sitting in front of the Gautam Budhha statue for more than three hours with tears welling up. Some days spent at Simultala near Madhupur in Giridih district inspired him to write poems. "Through this book we have tried to bring out the connection between Tagore and our state. Hope that readers will get an insight into his life," said Sinha.
