Bokaro Thermal Power Plant Goods Train Mishap: SUV Damaged, No Casualties Reported

Bokaro: A major mishap was averted on Sunday morning at the Bokaro Thermal Power Plant after a goods train went out of control and rammed into an SUV near a railway gate around 7 am. However, no casualties were reported.

Police, railway officials and CISF personnel reached the spot soon after the incident. Officer in-charge of Bokaro Thermal police station Pinku Kumar Yadav and station manager Shailesh Kumar were among those who inspected the site.

A probe has been initiated against the driver, A Kumar, for alleged violation of safety norms. Railway authorities said they are examining possible lapses in handling and coordination.

The rake, which entered the plant around 4 am for unloading coal, broke through the internal gate after completing operations and rolled forward at speed. An SUV parked near the tracks was hit and dragged for nearly 500 metres. The driver, Amardeep, managed to jump out seconds before the collision. The vehicle was completely damaged. The train finally came to a halt only after a portion of the rake derailed.

The victim, Amardeep, said, “I had no time to react. I jumped out at the last moment to save my life. My car was completely destroyed in front of my eyes. Had there been even a slight delay, I would not have survived. There is a clear negligence on the part of the railway and rake management.”
