Bokaro Police Bust Cyber Fraud Racket, Arrest 6 Bihar Natives
Bokaro: District police busted a cyber fraud racket and arrested six Bihar natives from a residential apartment in the Chira Chas area here.
According to the Bokaro SP, Harvinder Singh, the technical branch received alerts through the Pratibimb app regarding suspicious mobile numbers linked to cybercrime. “A verification team led by Chira Chas police station officer in-charge Pushpraj Kumar conducted the raid around 10.45 pm on Sunday,” he said on Monday.
The SP added, “The police found six individuals allegedly engaged in online fraud using multiple mobile phones and SIM cards. All of them were taken into custody.” A case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
The arrested persons were identified as Mithilesh Kumar Jha (35), Rohit Aryan (30), Guddu Kumar (37), Prince Kumar (26), Vikas Ravidas (31), and Tinku Kumar (24), all residents of different districts of Bihar. Police said one of the accused, Prince Kumar, had a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him in Bihar.
“Police recovered 13 smart phones, Rs 20,000 in cash, SIM cards, Aadhaar cards, a private bank passbook, and several notebooks containing transaction details,” said the SP.
Explaining the modus operandi, Singh said the gang operated in a highly organised manner with clearly defined roles. One member identified potential targets and made calls, another managed bank accounts used to transfer and withdraw the fraudulently obtained money, while others arranged SIM cards and handled different tasks separately.
He added that further investigation was underway to uncover the wider network and identify more victims. The accused primarily used social media to identify targets. The SP urged residents to remain vigilant and refrain from sharing bank details with unknown callers.
