BJP worker found dead, protest outside police station

JAMSHEDPUR: Bharatiya Janata Party activists gheraoed Baghbera police station on Saturday night for over two hours demanding arrest of those who allegedly stabbed to death a party worker near Tatanagar railway station town outpost.
The body of 55-year-old Prem Dubey, who was a resident of Kitadih under Baghbera police station area, was found lying few meters away from an illegal liquor shop in the wee hours on Saturday.
The BJP activist, who was a petty transporter in Jamshedpur, was stabbed to death with a sharp weapon.
On receiving the information, BJP Potka MLA Menaka Sardar led a group of irate party cadres to the local police station.
"The surreptitious spread of illegal liquor vendors in the area is also one of the reasons behind the deteriorating law and order here," said the MLA and demanded immediate demolition of the shops.
Responding quickly to the politician's demand, the police bulldozed three liquor vends and also assured the BJP activists fast action.
"We have given 72-hour ultimatum to the police to arrest the criminals or else we will hit the streets and also demolish the illegal liquor vends ourselves," said local BJP leader Subodh Jha, who was also part of the protesting team.
The BJP activists also demanded adequate monetary compensation to the victim's family.
Police have already started conducting raids to arrest the miscreants. "We are probing into the case from all angles to ascertain the cause behind the murder and simultaneously raids are on to arrest the criminals," said Kanhaiya Upadhyay, deputy police superintendent, law and order.
According to sources, seven people have been apprehended for questioning in connection with the murder case.
The victim's body was cremated at Parvati burning ghat after postmortem at MGM hospital.
