BJP Appoints Observers for Jamshedpur Civic Polls, Focus on Development Agenda

Jamshedpur: The BJP has appointed observers across the urban local bodies here to ensure victory for the candidates being backed by the party. The observers have been tasked to coordinate between the candidates, local party leaders and the grass root workers ahead of the Feb 23 polls.

A senior party leader said the observers will hold meetings with panna pramukhs and booth-level workers and work out a winning strategy at the ward level. They will also hold talks with the senior party leaders of the respective assembly constituencies and iron out differences originating over the party’s support for the candidates. With the civic polls being held 14 months after the state assembly election, the saffron party plans to use the existing infrastructure gaps in Bijli, Sadak and Pani (electricity, roads and water) to corner the candidates who are being backed by JMM and its allies. “Urban local bodies are central to the 2047 Viksit Bharat agenda of PM Narendra Modi. We need to have responsible, development-oriented and accountable people in the civic bodies, and this is what we are working on,” said Jamshedpur Mahanagar committee general secretary, Anil Modi. Anil said BJP’s national general secretary Arun Singh will visit Jamshedpur on Saturday and chair a coordination meeting with those who have been place in-charge of the civic bodies.


Notably, two-member panels have been appointed by the party in Mango, Adityapur, Jugsalai and Chakulia. In Mango, the panel consists of former state president Dineshanand Goswami and Barkatha MLA Amit Yadav. Rajya Sabha MP Pradip Verma and Shailendra Singh have been appointed in the panel for Adityapur. Former MLAs Jitu Charan Ram and Maneka Sardar have been made the in-charge of Jugsalai while Abhay Singh and Lakhan Mardi have been named in the panel for Chakulia civic body.
