BCCL bags silver medal in CSR Covid-19 relief project

Dhanbad: Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) won the silver medal in the CSR Covid Relief Project (mid-scale) category at the 7th Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Health Impact Award ceremony organised by the Integrated Health and Well-being Council (IHW Council) in Delhi on Friday.
The BCCL’s head of public relations, Udayvir Singh, said the PSU’s general manager (CSR) D K Behera and manager Nilanjana Chakraborty received the award presented by Kiran Bedi, IPS (retd).
BSL provided free boarding and lodging for doctors and paramedical staff, who served as frontline warriors during the pandemic. The firm distributed free 40,600 packets of dry ration and food packets to migrants and individuals in need besides operating two quarantine centres to support the isolation and treatment of Covid-19 patients, Singh said.
The CIL subsidiary also provided financial assistance of Rs 5.85 crore to the district and the state administrations and installed two oxygen plants, each with a capacity of 960 litres per minute, at a Covid hospital, set up 30 ICU beds in a dedicated Covid hospital, leveraging its own medical facilities to combat the challenges posed by the pandemic. The company also distributed 7,000 face masks and 7,000 hand sanitiser bottles to vulnerable population.
BCCL CMD Samiran Dutta dedicated the award to the medical staff of the company, including doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and support personnel.
