Autistics may have unique learning styles: Experts
Ranchi : To educate children, parents, and locals about autism, a developmental disability, the State Disability Commissioner’s office in collaboration with the Women Child Development and the Social Security Department conducted an awareness programme on Wednesday to mark the Autism Awareness Day (April 2). Experts state that people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) struggle with social communication and engagement, as well as confined or repetitive behaviours or hobbies. They may have unique learning, movement, and attention styles.The assistant director (social welfare), women and child development department, Kanchan Singh, said, “Autism has a prevalence incidence of about 0.6%. Awareness might help the child develop socially and interact with others.”Head of the department of psychiatric social work at Ranchi Institute of Neuro Psychiatry and Allied Sciences (Rinpas) Dr Manisha spoke about the symptoms of autism and topics of life skills and skill training for children suffering from autism to live a comfortable life. She said, “People are reluctant to discuss autism due to a lack of understanding. Autism sufferers should not be subjected to any form of discrimination, nor should the general public be ignorant of neuropsychiatric conditions.”Homoeopathic physician, Dr Rajeev Kumar, said, "Autism-afflicted children should be encouraged to interact with others as they are socially isolated and hesitant to discuss their problems. To assist them, we should give them affection with emotional support."
