Dhanbad: Police and security forces found a huge cache of arms and ammunition at a suspected Maoist hideout during a combing operation near Chandraprabhu tonk, proximate to Maoist-dominated Parasnath hills.
Senior officers said at least three major encounters took place with Maoists in the past 30 hours. While the rebels triggered an Improved Explosive Device (IED), apart from firing at security personnel, no injuries have been reported.
Hazaribag DIG Upendra Prasad, CRPF DIG P K Toppo, Giridih SP Akhilesh B Verior, CRPF commandant of 154 battalion Irden Ekka, COBRA commandant Dharmendra Singh are still camping in Parasnath.
"We received inputs about Maoist presence near Chandraprabhu tonk in the past few day. Police, CRPF, COBRA and Jharkhand Jaguard personnel launched a massive anti-Maoist operation across the region. Maoists triggered an IED blast and fired several rounds to combat security forces", said SP Verior, adding rebels were "forced out of their hideouts" by security forces.
"We found around 30 detonators, six IEDs, naxal literature, uniforms, medicines, ladies clothes and other belongings from their hideouts," said ASP (operations) Kunal Kumar. "There were two consecutive encounters. The first one began at 9 am, with the other at 6.30 pm on Sunday. "The third encounter took place on Monday morning at 9.30 am," Kumar said,
