LOHARDAGA: Altogether 75 elderly couple underwent cataract operation-cum-lens transplantation at a health camp organized by the District Blindness Control Society. The programme was jointly conducted by the local branches of the Indian Red Cross Society and Lion's Club of Ranchi (East). Deputy commissioner-cum-president of the society Ratan Kumar inaugurated the camp to convey his well wishes to the patients, who underwent an operation conducted by a 16-member medical team from Lions Niramaya Hospital, Ranchi, led by Dr Rahul Prasad, professor of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi.
Red Cross secretary Dr Ileen and Mercy along with their nursing staff from St Ursula Hospital, were also assisting the guest medical team. Volunteers assisted patients by providing food and helping them in post-operative care.
DC Ratan Kumar on this occasion asked the volunteers to organize another camp before winter ends. "The volunteers of Red Cross Society and others in the district have proved their worth by helping to restore the eyesight of the elderly in the district, which has no reputed eye surgeon," said the DC.
