Ranchi: The state’s largest hospital and medical college, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), has decided to implement an e-prescription system soon to ensure that patients who are visiting the hospital get the right medicines prescribed by their doctors.
The move is also aimed at eliminating the gaps between the store, which keeps a record of the stock of medicines and consumables, and the outpatient department (OPD) and the indoor patient department (IPD).
According to the Rims management, e-prescription is the third step it has taken in making the patient care system transparent and accountable. Earlier, Rims had already implemented the e-office and e-store to replace the traditional system and bring all administrative files and store operations online.
Talking to TOI about the latest move, Rims additional director (administration) Chandan Kumar said, “On several occasions, I have found that nurses and doctors cite lack of medicines and consumables in their respective departments. However, on cross-checking, we found the required medicines and consumables are in stock. It affects the patients as they are asked to buy medicines from private outlets even when they are available within the hospital.”
Kumar further said the e-prescription system will eliminate the hassles of patients, doctors and nurses as the whole stock of available medicines and consumables will be displayed online.
