Activists write to Prez on Bhima Koregaon case

Ranchi: Sahid Father Stan Swamy Nyay Morcha, un umbrella organisation of different social outfits, on Wednesday wrote a letter to President Droupadi Murmu demanding immediate withdrawal of Bhima Koregaon violence conspiracy case against all 16 accused, including the late activist and release of all accused, including activists, lawyers and intellectuals languishing in jail.
They submitted the letter at Raj Bhavan after staging a demonstration in front of it in the morning. They claimed that the accused persons have been charged under serious offences although there is no evidence to support the allegations. It said the trial of the case has not begun even after five years.
During the demonstration, the participants also demanded action against people allegedly responsible for the death of social activist Stan Swamy in the custody of National Investigating Agency (NIA). They also sought abolition of the UAPA and the release of political prisoners.
The NIA arrested Swamy in October 2020 and charged him under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
