5K kg adulterated peda seized in Deoghar mela

Dumka: Continuing its crackdown on the sale of adulterated food items at Basukinath during the ongoing Shravani Mela, the district food safety authorities seized and destroyed a huge amount of adulterated khowa and pedas weighing over 5,000 kg following a surprise inspection on Friday.
A fine of Rs 1 lakh has also been imposed on the owners of different confectionery shops selling pedas in the vicinity of Basukinath Shiva temple, which is the most sought-after item for offering to the deity. The move followed the seizure of 200 kg of adulterated pedas on July 9 by a team of the district food safety department. However, the eight errant shopkeepers were let off with a warning.
