Jamshedpur: Two men were arrested on NH-33 for allegedly smuggling 50 kg of marijuana in a car on Sunday late evening, East Singhbhum district police said on Monday. The contraband, packed in 25 packets of 2 kg each, were being smuggled into Bihar from Odisha.
SP (Rural) Rishabha Garg, speaking to the media on Monday, said the narcotics was recovered during a vehicle checking drive under Baharagora police station limits.
The two men travelling in the car were identified as Bhim Yadav (32) and Raj Kumar Pal. Yadav is a resident of Sonari police station area in Jamshedpur while Pal is a resident of Bhojpur district in Bihar. “They have been sent to jail and booked under various sections of NDPS Act,” said Garg.
The SP said the duo revealed to the police that they picked up the consignment from Barakul in Chilika in Odisha. Once they reached Bihar, the plan was to sell the contraband to the buyers across several district. “We have got clues about the brains of the gang, and further probe is underway to arrest them,” he added.
