2 injured in firing between rival groups in Dhanbad; 4 detained
Dhanbad: Tension gripped the Chhatabad area under Katras police station in Dhanbad after a late-night firing between two rival groups left two persons injured on Wednesday midnight.
Soon after the incident, senior police officials, including Baghmara SDPO Ajit Kumar Vimal, Katras circle inspector Mohammad Rustam Ansari, and personnel from several police stations rushed to the spot. Police cordoned off the area and detained four suspects for questioning in connection with the firing.
The incident, reportedly triggered by old rivalry, occurred near Kailudih ground in Chhatabad at around 1 am, creating panic among local residents.
According to police sources, several rounds of firing were exchanged between the two groups, causing chaos in the locality.
Two persons sustained bullet injuries in the incident. The injured have been identified as Nitish Kumar Yadav, a resident of Chhatabad, and another individual whose identity is yet to be officially disclosed.
Nitish Kumar Yadav suffered a bullet injury on his thigh and is currently undergoing treatment at a private clinic in Nichitpur. Doctors attending to the injured said that both victims are out of danger.
Confirming the incident, Katras police station in-charge and inspector Praveen Kumar said the firing took place due to personal enmity between the groups.
“Police reached the spot immediately after receiving information. The area has been converted into a police camp and the situation is under control,” he said.
Baghmara SDPO Ajit Kumar Vimal said all detained individuals are being interrogated and the role of each suspect is being verified. Intensive raids are also being conducted to identify and arrest others involved in the incident.
Kishori Yadav, father of injured Nitish Kumar Yadav, told the police that his family is engaged in dairy business.
“My son had gone out late at night to check on our cows and buffaloes when he was caught in the firing,” he said.
On Thursday morning, Rural SP Mohammad Yakub visited the spot and reviewed the situation. He directed police officials to expedite the investigation and ensure strict action against those responsible. Police officials claimed that the accused would be arrested soon.
