10 police personnel injured as bus overturns in Chhattisgarh's Bastar

RANCHI: At least 10 Madhya Pradesh police personnel sustained injuries when the bus they were traveling in for poll duty overturned in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district on Sunday, according to a senior official.

A local police official had said that the injured personnel were from the CRPF.

Later, a senior police official from Jagdalpur said those injured belonged to the Madhya Pradesh police.

The accident occurred near Raikot village on the Geedam-Jagdalpur road, within the jurisdiction of Geedam police station.

The security personnel were returning from poll duty in the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, where voting took place on April 19, and were heading towards Gariband in the Mahasamund parliamentary constituency, which is scheduled to vote on April 26.

The bus, carrying 36 Madhya Pradesh police personnel, veered off the road when the driver attempted to avoid a cattle that suddenly appeared on the road, causing the vehicle to overturn. As a result, at least 10 occupants of the bus were injured.

Upon receiving the information, ambulances were dispatched to the accident site, and the injured personnel were transported to a medical college in Dimrapal, Jagdalpur. Five of them were admitted to the hospital for further treatment, while the others were released after receiving initial medical attention.
