Woman killed by her brother’s fiancee in Porbandar
Rajkot: A 35-year-old woman died following a violent altercation allegedly linked to breaking an engagement at an apartment in Porbandar city on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place around 3 pm at Neha Palace Apartments located behind Birla Hall in Porbandar. Police have registered a case against Suhasi Raychura, her father Jagdish Raychura, and mother Shilpa Raychura in connection with the death of Vrinda Nirmal under BNS sections 103 (1), 115 (2), 351 (3), 352 and 54.
According to the complaint filed at Kamalabag Police Station by Vrinda’s brother Hit Popat, the dispute began after Suhasi Raychura arrived at the family’s residence and questioned why her engagement with Hit was being called off.
Hit Popat, who owns a mobile shop in Porbandar, stated in the complaint that his married sisters had come to stay at their parental home.
According to the police complaint, Suhasi allegedly argued with Hit’s parents and attempted to assault them. During the confrontation, Vrinda Nirmal was recording the incident on her mobile phone.
The complaint alleges that Suhasi threatened Vrinda and tried to stop her from filming. Hit also alleged that Suhasi strangled him when he intervened in the dispute.
Police said Suhasi then called her parents to the house, after which the confrontation turned violent.
According to the complaint, Jagdish Raychura allegedly attempted to hit Vrinda with a plastic pipe, while Suhasi and Shilpa allegedly pushed her against a cupboard during the scuffle. Vrinda was reportedly holding her son in one arm and her mobile phone in the other at the time.
Family members alleged that Vrinda collapsed after vomiting and became unconscious. The accused allegedly left the house immediately after the incident.
Vrinda was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, where doctors declared her dead. The complaint stated that yellow fluid was seen coming from her nose before her death.
Police have registered offences under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions related to murder, assault, criminal intimidation, and common intention.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Vrinda Nirmal had been married to Vishal Nirmal of Junagadh for the past 13 years and was the mother of a 10-year-old son.
Police said Hit Popat had met Suhasi Raychura through a Garba Classes in Porbandar, where he worked as a trainer and Suhasi attended classes. The two later got engaged with the consent of both families around 11 months ago.
Investigators said tensions had reportedly developed between Suhasi and Hit’s family over the last two months, leading Hit to decide against the marriage.
Police are continuing the investigation and awaiting further forensic and postmortem reports to determine the exact cause of death..
