Rajkot: Three persons including a 17-year-old girl, were arrested in connection with a house burglary in Jamnagar on Thursday.
Police have arrested Asif Salim Makrani (23) and Salman Bloch (22), both residents of Dhararnagar and detained the minor girl for allegedly stealing Rs 6 lakh from the house of Dr Amit Mehta located in Ketan Society on Asolapav Road of Jamnagar, about a month ago.
The minor girl used to work as a domestic help in Mehta's house. Mehta is an ophthalmologist and owns a hospital on Amar Cinema Road.
Mehta's brother, Nilesh Mehta, had lodged a complaint of burglary with the B-Division police station of Jamnagar three days ago.
The trio came under suspicion after they were found moving around the town in a brand new premium hatchback car. "On Thursday, we intercepted their car near GG Hospital Road. They were carrying Rs 40,000 cash and four mobile phones. On interrogation, the trio allegedly confessed to stealing the cash from Mehta's house," said A S Chavda, PSI, Jamnagar local crime branch.
"The accused had stolen the money about a month ago. But Mehta's family came to know about the theft just three days back as they were busy in treatment of their mother," said Chavda.
, adding that the minor girl who used to work in the house had stolen the cash and handed it over to Asif and Salman.
Police sources said that the first thing they did with the stolen money was to purchase a car and mobile phones. The sudden change in trio's lifestyle got the police suspicious and they kept watch on their movements. Finally, they were arrested on Thursday.
