'Teach her a lesson': Another husband dies by suicide, uploads video accusing wife of 'mental torture'

RAJKOT: The Botad police detained a woman on Saturday for allegedly abetting her husband's suicide after videos surfaced in which the deceased accused her of mental harassment and urged his family to "teach her a lesson". The woman, Jaya Sathadiya, has been booked under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita for abetment to suicide.

The victim, Suresh Sathadiya (39), was found hanging in his home in Zamrala village, Botad district, on Dec 30. A complaint was lodged against Jaya by Suresh's father, Babu Sathadiya, after a video was discovered on Suresh's mobile phone.


In the video, Suresh, visibly distressed and weeping, accused his wife of mental torture and said, "Teach her a lesson that she will remember for her entire life. She was neither mine nor her children's; she cheated me and forced me to die."

The couple were married for 17 years and had four children - two daughters aged 15 and 10, and two sons aged six and four.

According to the FIR, Jaya Sathadiya frequently argued with her husband and often left to stay at her parents' house. On the day of the incident, Suresh Sathadiya went to his in-laws' house to persuade Jaya to return home. However, when she refused, he returned to his residence and recorded a video before taking his own life. The video was found on Suresh's mobile but was neither sent to anyone nor shared on social media.

Suresh's father stated that they lodged the FIR on Friday as the family was busy with his post-death rituals. Suresh has four elder brothers and two sisters. N P Ahir, deputy superintendent of police, Botad, told TOI: "We have detained the woman and sent the video for forensic analysis. We will present her in court and seek her remand to investigate the nature of harassment further."
