RAJKOT: Paper examiners are in short supply, and those for checking papers in English are scarcer in Saurashtra University (SU). With just 20 professors and lecturers in English department, checking of final exam papers is going on at a snail's pace.
The crunch was felt after examination department of SU decided to announce results early this year and thus, begun checking work of five faculties together.
"As the exams department started correction of SY BCom, BA, FY BA, BCom and MCom together, the problem of inadequate examiners cropped up," pointed out an official of SU. "With more than 10,000 answer sheets of first and second year, it is an uphill task. In addition, some professors are on holiday." SU pays Rs 5 for all PG papers and Rs 4.75 for UG papers.
"With this pace, this year too results are going to be delayed, despite the varsity's tall claims," said a professor. "It's nobody's fault really. SU administration needs to be more organised. They could have taken up checking in phases. So, at least a few faculties would have been in the clear," he said.
