AMRELI: A man, who was accused of attempting to murder his lover, committed suicide on Saturday. In a note left behind, he has accused the woman of staging the murder and maligning his name as he refused to continue their illicit relationship.
Bharat Mehta was found dead near the outskirts of Dhari village of Amreli district on Saturday evening. On Friday, Vasant Baraiyya, 30, a married woman with whom Mehta was involved, was admitted to Amreli Civil Hospital with severe burns.
Baraiyya alleged that it was Mehta who doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze. She had lent Mehta Rs 50,000 two months ago. When she asked for the money, Mehta set her on fire, she said in her complaint.
However, Mehta, in his suicide note addressed to police, said, his parents were against his relationship with Baraiyya. So, he had gone to Baraiyya's house to end it. Angry, she burnt herself in front of him and later accused him, the note said.
