Mumbai woman accuses catering firm owner of rape

Rajkot: A 23-year-old woman from Mumbai has accused a Rajkot-based catering firm owner of raping her.
The woman, who is also engaged in catering work in Mumbai, had come in contact with the accused Sikandar Mir in April. In her complaint lodged with the Rajkot Taluka police station, the woman said that she had come to Rajkot with a friend who had introduced her to Mir."We worked for few days in Rajkot and then left for Mumbai. On May 23, Mir and his friend met me in Mumbai and offered me work in his catering business. We came to Rajkot again and stayed in his bungalow," he said.
The woman told police that she started suspecting Mir's behaviour and asked him to pay for the work she had done. "I wanted to return to Mumbai but he refused to pay me saying that I would get the payment only after the entire work is completed. He also warned me against stepping out of his house," she alleged.
"On May 31 afternoon, Mir called me to his room when I asked for payment again. When my friend and I went to his room, Mir's friend took my friend away while Mir raped me. Mir then told me that he would give her dues the next day but threatened to kill me if she revealed anything about the sexual assault," she alleged. The woman informed her brother in Mumbai who rushed to Rajkot and lodged a complaint against Mir and his friend Kathi.
Mir is the brother of popular folk singer Farida Mir.
