Medical student, woman friend targeted using fake Insta account

Rajkot: A 22-year-old medical student, Uday Gangani, pursuing his MBBS at Shantaba Medical College in Amreli, has lodged a complaint with the Amreli cyber crime police station against an unknown individual operating a fake Instagram account.The perpetrator misused photographs of Uday and his female friend, creating reels with ill intentions and posting slanderous comments about them in the account's bio section. Moreover, the perpetrator sent fake 'follow' requests to Uday's acquaintances, tarnishing their image within the college community and society at large.According to Uday, on the night of Aug 1, around 11 pm, while he was studying in the college library, his friend Nisarg Patel called Uday and informed him that he had received a follow request from an Instagram ID that seemed fake.Upon investigating the profile, Uday found that it lacked photos but utiliezed a username that mentioned both him and his female friend. The bio section contained defamatory statements about the duo, and two reels featuring their images were uploaded.Uday conferred with his female friend about the situation and informed her of his intention to file an online complaint addressing the issue. The complaint has been registered under the relevant sections of identity theft and the IT Act.
