Locust attack in Kutch, farmers fear huge crop losses

RAJKOT: The

locust attack

has created panic amongst

farmers

in

Kutch district

. The farmers were happy because of good rain, however, they have fear of huge loss of crops because of this attack. The agriculture department have been tasked to sprinkle chemicals during nights to get rid of locust.

According to farmers, Lakhpat, Abdasa and Khavda talukas of

Kutch

district are the most affected. Talking to TOI, Kutch district collector, M Nagarajan, said, “We have to evaluate the figures of losses. Meanwhile, I have asked the District Development Officer (DDO) and agriculture department to take appropriate steps to control it. However, the attack is not major and it will be controlled soon.”

Locust attacks on crops during night time, so officials will sprinkle chemicals during nights. There is a common belief that locust has come from Pakistan, however, according to district administration, locust has travelled from Rajasthan side.
