KALAWAD (JAMNAGAR): Hitesh Thesia, 25, an Army jawan from Kalawad town of the district, died in a jeep accident after their vehicle was fired upon by terrorists in Doda district of Kashmir on Monday. One more jawan died in the accident and several were wounded.
Thesia's family, along with the entire town, was in shock and aggrieved as the news came in by evening.
Sources said Thesia had recently visited his hometown for his engagement. On December 8, he got engaged to Neha Mansuriya and resumed his posting with Battalion No. 128 in Doda last week.
Thesia was travelling in an Army jeep when terrorists fired at them. The driver lost control and the jeep fell into a gorge, killing Thesia and his colleague on the spot. Other jawans were injured in the accident.
A native of Kalawad, Thesia was a student of commerce in Rajkot and left to join the Army five years ago. He was always interested in parasailing and adventure sports apart from shooting.
Sources said Thesia's body will be brought to his town on Thursday and will be cremated here. The people of Kalawad have decided to carry out a funeral procession to honour their dead and will observe a bandh in his memory.
