Financial adviser scammed by loan fraud
Rajkot: A financial adviser to a city-based company lost Rs 6.64 lakh to cyber crooks after he downloaded a mobile application offering instant loans. According to the complaint lodged by Chirag Parmar, he was in urgent need of a loan for which downloaded the app on his mobile. However, his loan request was rejected. While removing that app from his phone, he got a pop-up about another application named ‘Cash Kiddam.’ Parmar downloaded this app and logged in with the option ‘allow with Google’ and allowed all the permissions. After this, several small amounts of loans amounting to Rs 1.41 lakh were deposited in his bank account. After some time, he started getting voice calls, WhatsApp calls, and from a virtual number, pressuring him to repay the loan amount.He was given a UPI ID through which he transferred Rs 1.41 lakh. But after repaying the loan, he started getting blackmailing calls with the threat of making viral some of the personal pictures on his mobile. The cybercrooks had managed to get his personal photos and contact numbers by hacking his phone.They kept sending his personal pictures to his known people and threatened to spread the message that he was a loan defaulter to all his contacts. Parmar ended up paying a total of Rs 6.64 lakh due to constant threats. When Parmar was exhausted with all money left, he approached the police.Police registered an offence against unknown persons for extortion and Information Technology Act.
