Rajkot: The opposition party in Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has alleged that meat of carcasses thrown in the civic body’s dumping site in Sokhda village are being sold in the market.
Congress members also demanded action against the persons responsible for such misdeeds.
The RMC had allotted an agency the contract of collecting the carcasses from the city based on complaints and reports on dead animals and then dump these at a designated site.
Environment engineer of RMC, Nilesh Parmar told TOI, “The designated dumping site is not properly cordoned and people involved in the business of selling skin and bones of animals also often use that space. We have proper monitoring system at the dumping site and all the animals collected by the agency are buried there using RMC’s machinery like earth movers with proper protocol.”
