Businessman’s live-in partner flees with cash, gold worth Rs 4 lakh

Rajkot: A 34-year-old businessman from Junagadh district lost Rs 3.73 lakh and gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh after a woman with whom he entered into a live-in relationship decamped with the valuables.The victim, Amit Pandya, who runs a hotel and car dealership, lodged a complaint against the woman named Roshni Jawahar, a resident of Jhansi.In the complaint, Pandya said he met Roshni through a matrimonial site five months ago. After initial meetings in Rajkot, she moved in with him to Amrapur village of Maliya Hatina taluka along with her daughter Khushi. The two signed a live-in contract on May 21 and were planning a formal wedding on June 9, for which Amit's father gave him Rs 1 lakh in cash. On May 29, when Pandya was away in Junagadh, she allegedly fled with the cash and jewellery.The FIR states that she even contacted Pandya later, assuring him the items would be returned. She invited him to Jhansi, from where they travelled together to several places, eventually performing a symbolic marriage ritual on June 10 at a temple in Rudraprayag. The couple then stayed in Haridwar and returned to Amrapur on June 25.On July 3, a dispute erupted when Roshni asked for her daughter's Aadhaar card, claiming she intended to enrol her in school in her hometown. Pandya questioned her intentions, which led to a heated argument. The following day, July 4, Roshni allegedly attacked him with a stick and knife and left the house.Pandya discovered that Roshni reportedly married and defrauded three to four other men in a similar manner. Based on his complaint, Maliya Hatina police registered an offence under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
