RAJKOT: A city-based advocate was arrested on Thursday evening for brutally murdering his wife.
Advocate Mukesh Vyas had approached the police in the morning with a complaint that around five unidentified persons barged into his house and tied him and his wife Shilpa (26).
She died due to suffocation and he fell unconscious after being beaten up by the miscreants late on Wednesday, Vyas had told the police.
Shilpa was found dead and her hands tied with packing tapes. Her mouth was also sealed with the tapes.
In the morning, Vyas rushed out of his first floor residence with hands tied. Seeing him, the neighbours soon informed the police and took him to a hospital, where he told police the concocted story. However, police did not believe him completely, and started investigation in the matter. After getting some initial clues, they grilled him. During further investigation, he confessed to the murder.
"Vyas has confessed to the crime and told us that he murdered his wife due to nagging domestic problems,'' police commissioner Mohan Jha told TOI.
Police said since the very beginning they were suspecting the advocate's behavior and found many loopholes in his story. "If it was a robbery attempt, the robbers would have first murdered the male person. Moreover, Shilpa was found dead in mysterious circumstance. We did not find her bed disheveled. If she was murdered by robbers, she may have tried to save herself, but there was no sign of scuffle at the crime scene," a senior police official said.
Mukesh and Shilpa had got married just nine months ago. It was second marriage for both. "The couple has been quarreling since last few months over various issues," police added.
