RAJKOT: B K Nayar, an income tax officer posted at Gandhidham in Kutch who was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday was remanded in police custody till Sunday morning by a Bhuj special court. The ACB sleuths also searched his Gandhidham residence. The agency is also checking various bank lockers in the names of Nayar and his family.
ACB inspector H Kansagara said that they were yet to recover the Rs 7.5 lakh which Nayar accepted earlier from builder N Patel, the complainant.
Police opened one of the lockers with Bhuj Co-operative Bank and found gold and jewellery, which Nayar claimed were family heirlooms.
Patel has accused Nayar of demanding Rs 10 lakh from him for settlement of a survey done in his office in February. Patel had paid Rs 7.5 lakh to Nayar and the rest was to be paid on Thursday noon.
