Dr Singh deftly used it to transplant the cornea, giving eyesight to two people. It must be a sort of a record, where cornea of an injured eye, soaking in pouring rain for more than 14 hours in a jungle, was successfully transplanted in two recipients.
As reported in these columns, he is the same ophthalmologist, who has simplified cataract operation making it within the reach of the poorest of the poor.
In recognition of his social commitment to help prevent blindness in every possible manner, the American Academy of Ophthalmologist, has invited him to participate in the 2019 Rotary Club Host Project. The goal of this project is the prevention of blindness and visual impairment through ophthalmic education.
It is pertinent to remember that WHO is concerned to reduce blindness by 50% by 2020. It is in this context that Dr Singh has devoted his life to reach to the maximum of those threatened with blindness, because of cataract and other correctable threats like glaucoma, eye injuries and many other causes.
