A 70-year-old woman of Devpara area of the city was arrested on Tuesday for impersonating a land owner to facilitate sale of prime land in the city.

RAJKOT: A 70-year-old woman of Devpara area of the city was arrested on Tuesday for impersonating a land owner to facilitate sale of prime land in the city.
Manjula Mandaliya was arrested on the complaint filed by Jayprakash Kangade, living in Prahlad Plot area, said officials of Gandhigram police station. Kangade said that Labhu Pattani, the original owner of a land near Raiyya telephone exchange on 150-ft Ring Road had died in London in 1979.

However, the power of attorney of the land was in his name. Currently, the value of the land is worth crores.
"To get possession of this land, father-son duo of Chunilal and Pankaj Kacha had paid Mandaliya Rs 40,000 through cheque to pose as Pattani. At the time of land registration, Mandaliya faked her signature, pasted her photograph in place of Labhuben's and got fake power of attorney documents prepared," said an official.
Investigations, however, revealed the discrepancies and police arrested Mandaliya on Tuesday. "We interrogated Mandaliya who confessed to the crime and revealed names of Chunilal and Pankaj," said police inspector of Gandhigram police station BN Raj, "We have started a search of this father-son duo."
