17-year-old girl, fiance found dead at home

Rajkot: A 17-year-old girl and her fiance were found hanged at their home in Radha Krishna Society, Jangleshwar, on Tuesday afternoon, in what police are treating as an apparent suicide.The deceased were identified as Kajal Sarvaiya (17) and Chetan Rakucha (21). Police said Kajal's mother, Laxmi Sarvaiya, returned from Tithva village in Morbi district, where she had been visiting relatives, and found the house locked from inside. After alerting neighbours, the door was forced open and the two were discovered hanging from a ceiling hook. They were rushed to hospital but were declared dead on arrival. Preliminary inquiries suggest Kajal and Chetan had been in a relationship and got engaged five months ago. Kajal had visited her uncle in Tithva village on Sunday and returned to Rajkot without telling her family.Police said the reason for the deaths is yet to be determined. Investigators are recording statements from relatives and acquaintances to understand the circumstances leading up to the incident.Kajal lived with her mother and worked with her in a catering business. She was the third of four sisters; her father, Prakash Sarvaiya, is deceased. Chetan was the oldest of three siblings.An unnatural death case has been registered at Bhaktinagar police station under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
