Murthy (38), who previously served as a sub-inspector at Tanuku Rural Police Station, was placed on VR two months ago following allegations of corruption related to the theft of two buffaloes.

The Inspector of Tanuku Rural Police Station was also sent on VR in connection with the case after an initial inquiry found prima facie evidence of their involvement.

Authorities suspect that SI Murthy died by suicide due to the disgrace associated with the allegations. Speaking to TOI, West Godavari SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi stated that a DSP-rank officer will lead the investigation into the incident.

He further mentioned that the police will examine whether any personal issues contributed to the suicide.
